Important Safety Information: Oxytocin

Reported effects include headache, nausea, and oral or sublingual irritation. Oxytocin has an antidiuretic effect: with high or prolonged dosing, this has been linked to water intoxication, a serious effect documented mainly with continuous IV administration during labor, at doses far higher and more sustained than typical off-label dosing here. Cardiovascular effects, including changes in blood pressure and heart rate, and rarely arrhythmia, have been reported. Oxytocin affects uterine contraction and must not be used during pregnancy, or if pregnancy is possible. No FDA-approved oxytocin product carries a boxed warning. There is no FDA-approved oral or sublingual oxytocin product, for any use.
