Important Safety Information: Compounded GLP-1/GIP (tirzepatide)
Common effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, decreased appetite, and abdominal pain, most often around a dose change. Serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease (acute gallbladder events occurred in about 0.6% of tirzepatide-treated patients vs. 0% on placebo in trials), kidney injury from dehydration, and hypoglycemia in combination with certain other medications. FDA-approved tirzepatide products carry a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumors observed in rodents; human relevance is not established, and tirzepatide must not be used by anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. The medication hasn't been studied in patients with advanced diabetic retinopathy or diabetic macular edema requiring active treatment. Current labeling also calls for monitoring for new or worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, discontinue and seek care if these occur; it should not be used by anyone with a history of suicide attempts or active suicidal ideation.
